skin cancer – the abnormal growth of skin cells – most often develops on exposed skin exposure to sunlight. But this common form of cancer can also occur on areas of skin not normally exposed to sunlight. Skin cancer is a disease found in the cancer (malignant) cells in the outer layers of the skin. Your skin protects the body from heat, light, infections and injuries. It also stores water, fat and vitamin D.
Melanoma is a form of skin cancer that occurs in melanocytes, the cells in the outer skin layer (epidermis) are. Melanoma is the most serious form of skin cancer. Melanoma is curable, when detected and treated early, but if it has spread not treated, the majority of melanomas eventually spread to other parts of the body. Early detection and surgery to remove melanoma is effective to cure most cases of melanoma, but it is rarely curable advanced

Facts
There are three types of skin cancer: The two most common are basal cell and squamous cell carcinomas. They are easily treated and rarely fatal. The third and most dangerous malignant melanoma.
Skin cancer is the second most common cancer in the United Kingdom, with approximately 40 500 new cases per year of which 6,000 are malignant melanomas. About 1,500 people die from melanoma in the UK each year.
Melanomas can spread two ways: to grow horizontally, resulting in the superficial spreading melanoma, or they can look down and the cells of the lymph node invasion, which is much more dangerous

Causes

The treatment
Freezing. Your doctor may destroy actinic keratoses and some small skin cancer early by freezing with liquid nitrogen (cryosurgery). The dead tissue sloughs off when it thaws. The treatment may leave a small white scar. You may need to repeat the treatment to completely eliminate growth.
Excision: Small cancers can be removed by cutting. This will be done under local anesthesia.
Laser therapy. A precise, intense beam of light vaporizes growths, generally with little damage to surrounding tissue and with minimal bleeding, swelling and scarring. A doctor can treat with this therapy for superficial skin cancers or precancerous growths on the lips.
Radiotherapy. Radiation can destroy basal and squamous cell carcinomas if surgery is not possible.
Mohs. This procedure applies to most skin cancers, recurrent or difficult to treat, which includes both basic and squamous cell carcinomas. Your doctor is the layer of the skin growth layer by layer, examined each under a microscope until no abnormal cells remain.
